IEEE WIE MSIT came up with another enthralling session "First Dive in FOSS" by Ajay Tripathi. The event was hosted on September 20, 2020 from 7pm to 8:30pm on the Google Meets platform. The session focused on the open source culture and how should one start contributing to open source projects. The session focused on topics like : 1. What is open-source? 2. Why work on open-source projects? 3. What do I need to get started? 4. Where do I contribute? 5. How do I get to coding? 6. Are my expectations correct? 7. What opportunities are out there for me? The session was hosted by Mr. Ajay Tripathi, a FOSSEE fellowship recipient by IIT Bombay who was also selected for GSoC 2019 and 2020. He worked as a Google Code-In Mentor in the year 2018 and 2019 and has been Working on open-source projects for 3 years. The interactive session had a great turn over with over 45 attendees (IEEE members - 7; non IEEE members - 38). Not only did the audience get detailed insights into the world of open source but also got a clear understanding about how the same can be utilized in the industry. It can be proudly stated that this initiative proved to be very fruitful to students who are planning or want to start with open source contributions.
